The Print Workshop in Falun (FKV) is an institution within the Swedish printmaking society. Drawing from a long and proud history, the print workshop for professional artist can offer rich opportunities for artistic expression with all known printmaking methods. Nowadays we are also environmentally friendly!
- 1957 is the founding year for FKV, it started as a study group run by ABF in a small facility at Kvarnberget in Falun
- 1973 the workshop moved to the current location at Blindgatan in the old district Östanfors. At the same time the city council stepped in as owners and hired a full time on-site director
- 1993 the workshop underwent a thorough renovation and was extended
FKV is located in a picturesque district full of cultural heritage, and next door is an old bookbinding workshop. After the 1993 renovation its possible to work with pretty much all known printmaking techniques. At ground level we got a copper print work area, a litography area, and a paper and work room. Downstairs we got an electric relief printing press and a darkroom equipped for photopolymer. Upstairs there's a digital work area, a common area suitable for lectures and reading, and a kitchen.
Our goal is to experiment with new material och find new ways to create fine art printmaking. The ventilation system is well developed and the workshop is a safe and comfortable place to work in. Non Toxic printmaking is available, and limited lifting help can be acquired. FKV is equipped with wifi.
One of the main goals of the workshop is international collaboration, which we achieve through courses/workshops and exhibitions. On top of that we are on the lookout for collaborating with artists abroad. Many wellknown printmakers have visited and worked at FKV throughout the years.
